Hemorrhoids
Your enlarging uterus places extra pressure on your rectal veins. If there is additional strain on these veins because of constipation and difficulty passing stool, you may develop hemorrhoids. Hemorrhoids are round, purplish, swollen veins around the anus and rectum that can feel itchy or painful. Eating foods high in fiber, exercising and drinking plenty of fluids can prevent hemorrhoids. When you have hemorrhoids, avoid wiping your bottom vigorously. Clean the area gently with water and Preparation H cleansing pads, which have a coating that soothes. Soaking in a warm tub and/or applying ice packs also help relieve discomfort. Check with your doctor before using any topical medications.
For problem, painful hemorrhoids, an old method of relief is to chill a bottle of witch hazel in the refrigerator, get a 4 inch square piece of gauze pad and saturate it with the chilled witch hazel, fold in half, and place it against the anal area. This typically helps with swelling and discomfort.
