Relief for mom

Comfortable clothing
During your first month, your body is adjusting to your pregnancy. The new activities of your hormones will cause a number of changes in your energy level, moods, libido and appetite. Your body is working harder to accommodate the growing embryo and the placenta. In fact, you can expect your metabolic rate (the rate at which your body performs its work) to increase by about 10-20%. You will quickly notice changes to your body. Your breasts will become larger, more tender, and with darker pigmentation.

A good supportive bra can help alleviate discomfort until your breasts stop growing at such a rapid pace. Placing cotton balls or other soft materials in your bra cups may relieve irritation of hypersensitive nipples. It is best to get a properly fitted maternity bra early on in your pregnancy. A specialty store should have trained staff to assist you. Make sure the shoulder straps do not cut into your skin, and that there is a broad band beneath your breasts.

Keep a step ahead of your increasing size by purchasing maternity clothing early. A maternity girdle can help take some of the pressure off your back and ease low backaches. Socks should also be loose-fitting and made of cotton.
