Getting pregnant

Frequency of and positions for sex
To become pregnant you should have frequent intercourse during the period at or around ovulation. Sperm can live for anywhere from 48-72 hours within the woman’s reproductive system depending on the how favorable the cervical environment is. Sexual intercourse every 2-3 days, around or at the time of ovulation, should be adequate to achieve pregnancy.

Other tips include avoiding douching prior to intercourse --this can disrupt the natural environment of the vagina and cervix, making it difficult for sperm to migrate. If you need a vaginal lubricant, be sure to use a water based lubricant such as Replens, K-Y Jelly or Lubrifax or other brands that do not have spermicides in them (spermicides kill sperm!).

Positioning

Besides frequent intercourse, it may be helpful to use positions that favor the pooling of semen close to the cervix, such as man-on-top or rear-entry. Raising the pelvis up on pillows after intercourse will also help sperm pool toward the cervix.
