Do's and Don'ts

Did You Know?
  • For a sperm to reach and penetrate the ovum outer wall it takes about 20,000 tail lashings
  • When a sperm penetrates the inner shell of the ovum, a chemical reaction takes place that shuts out all other sperm. This is nature’s way of preventing birth defects that may occur when the embryo receives more genetic information from one parent than the other.
  • Approximately 20% of pregnancies result in miscarriage, usually during the first trimester Many miscarriages occur in the first weeks of pregnancy and are never detected.
  • It is the later miscarriages which may be more preventable, and care can be taken to lower your risk of miscarriage as well as premature birth and other problems.
