Checking your baby's well being
What It's About
Throughout your pregnancy and birth, your baby’s well being will be evaluated using various tests and procedures on both mom and baby. Many of the monitoring techniques that focus on mom’s health include measurements and evaluations of weight, urine, blood pressure, swelling, and blood sugar. Over the last 2 decades, several tests have emerged that focus directly on the fetus as well. It is very reassuring for pregnant women to know that the baby is on target with growth and development, and showing signs of health at appropriate stages of pregnancy.
Growth of the uterus as pregnancy progresses is a sign of fetal well being. Fetal movements like kicks, turns, and twists, is a way to measure health. Monitoring the heart rate and how it responds to the stress of movements is also a method to evaluate fetal well being.
