When to call the doctor
Did You Know?
- Group B Strep infections, which may cause serious illness in the newborn, are preventable. Pregnant women are routinely screened for this infection.
- Immunity to Rubella (German measles) is important to check before pregnancy. If you become infected in your pregnancy, there is increased risk of birth defects or miscarriage.
- Toxoplasmosis is a human infection that is spread through soil contaminated with animal feces, contact with cats that hunt (and their waste), handling raw meat, and eating raw or undercooked meats.
- It is normal that a few hours to days before you go into labor you can observe a ‘bloody show.' The mucus plug that covers your cervix to protect you against infection will discharge from your vagina. This show will not necessarily be bloody. It can be clear, pink to brownish.
