MidLife

What It's About

Midlife - A Time of Change Mid-life is a time of natural transition in a woman’s life. Most women recognize the biggest milestone of this stage as menopause, the end of having menstrual periods. In truth though, menopause formally happens when menstruation has stopped for at least 12 months. There are many emotional and physical changes that women experience in this phase of life. Just as in adolescence, pregnancy and postpartum, the body is adjusting to different levels of hormones. The mid-life change, like other milestones in a woman’s life, involves self-discovery and personal growth.

During menopause, the body makes less of the female hormones, estrogen and progesterone. Some women may experience troublesome symptoms such as hot flashes (a sudden flush or warmth, often followed by sweating) and sleep problems at this time. Sometimes, women have other physical problems such as vaginal dryness. While many women have little or no trouble with menopause, others have moderate to severe discomfort.
