Are some women more at risk for cervical cancer than others?
Any woman can develop cancer of the cervix, but you are at higher risk if:
  • You have had multiple sex partners or a male partner who has had multiple female partners. If your partner has had sex with other women, you are at high risk even if you have had only one partner.
  • You have had genital warts.
  • You had sexual relations before the age of 18.
  • You previously had an abnormal Pap examination.

Although not having a Pap examination doesn't cause cancer, you are at greater risk if you have never had a Pap examination, or had your last one three or more years ago.
