Violence/Abuse
Under attack – if the unthinkable happens
You have little time to think and little time to act. There is no plan that can account for the many variables regarding the victim’s physical and emotional state, the setting, and the attacker’s determination or use of force. Being aware is being prepared. These assaults are the worst kind of instant education of how vulnerable you may be. Consider taking a woman’s self-defense class in your area.
Remember this:
- Surviving is the goal.
- If the attacker picked you because you looked vulnerable - surprise them, if you can. Try to escape. Scream. Be rude. Make noise to discourage your attacker from following.
- Talk, stall for time, and assess your options.
- If the rapist has a weapon, you may have no choice but to submit. Do whatever it takes to survive.
- If you decide to fight back, you must be quick, determined, and effective. Target the eyes or groin.
