Semen allergy
The human body is set up so that the immune system (natural defense system) responds to foreign substances. When the immune system identifies ”invaders” (antigens), it takes action by sending out fighter cells (antibodies). Antibodies stick to the antigen and form antibody-antigen complexes – if enough of these build up in certain areas, you get tissue swelling and redness – the start of an allergic reaction.

It is possible to be allergic to anything that doesn’t naturally occur in the body. Semen contains sperm and a variety of other substances that help propel sperm up toward the cervix. Whether the allergy is to the sperm or one of the other components of semen, it is possible to have an allergic reaction. Fortunately, this is not a common problem, but if you notice irritation, swelling, or hive-like bumps after unprotected intercourse, discuss the possibility of semen allergy with your health care provider.
