Sexual HealthOral sex , hot tubs and other bubblesAny forced air into the vagina during pregnancy is unsafe. Hot tubs, whirlpools, swimming pools and spas can all have forceful jets of bubbly water that may enter your vagina if you sit over the underwater spray. This forcing of air into the vagina can cause a rare but dangerous air embolism that has caused death in pregnant women.Oral sex that includes blowing into the vagina may also place a pregnant woman at risk for air embolism. This does not mean that oral sex should not be practiced during pregnancy – only the blowing or “insufflation” of the vagina is dangerous.
