Nutrition & Fitness

What It's About
This section of our site is designed to give you information and tips on how to maintain a healthy lifestyle through diet and exercise. As you may be aware, nutrition and fitness are the basics in any plan for good health and is key to your overall well being – both physically and mentally.

Food pyramid As defined by the United States Department of Agriculture and the Department of Health and Human Services, healthy diets follow the food guide "pyramid." This recommends 6-11 servings of complex carbohydrates, 2-3 servings each of fruits and vegetables, 1-2 servings each of dairy products and proteins like meat, tofu, or beans, and minimal use of added fats and sugars. In addition, the "Five A Day" Campaign is a national effort to get Americans to eat at least five servings from the fruit and vegetable groups per day.

As far as fitness is concerned, it is generally accepted and firmly believed that exercise provides an excellent release from stress and can help reduce the risk of developing or dying from some of the leading causes of death in the United States. Regular exercise has also been shown to affect people’s overall emotional health, promote a better outlook on life and reduce feelings of depression and anxiety.

Women of all ages should incorporate healthy diets and physical activity into their lives. Click on the Learn More About button above for more information about the benefits of nutrition and fitness and how to make them work for you.
