Infertility

Preserving your fertility
Are you trying to get pregnant now or planning to start a family some day? It is common to take the ability to have children for granted, and to assume it is possible to achieve parenthood as desired or planned. But five million Americans are faced with infertility -- the inability to get pregnant after one year of unprotected, well-timed intercourse, or the inability to carry a pregnancy that results in a live birth.

If you identify a symptom or risk factor that applies to you, even if you haven't tried yet to get pregnant, tell your doctor right away. Early detection and treatment of a problem are often critical in achieving successful pregnancy outcomes later.
