Heart Health

What It's About
Heart health is the promotion of healthy circulation and the prevention of cardiovascular disease. Disease of the heart and circulatory system is the leading cause of death for both men and women in the United States. More American women die yearly of heart disease, than the next 16 causes of death combined. The risk of developing heart disease increases as we age, particularly after menopause.

A common type of heart disease is coronary artery disease. This is a disease of the coronary arteries, the small vessels that supply blood, nutrients, and oxygen to the heart. Blockages of these delicate vessels can cause exercise intolerance, chest pains or angina, and heart attack.

Premenopausal women are also at risk for cardiovascular disease if they have cardiac risk factors such as smoking, hypertension, diabetes, elevated cholesterol and family history of early heart disease.
