Early detection of breast disease
Make it a routine to perform monthly breast self-examinations, go for a yearly clinical breast exam, and have a mammogram (an x-ray picture of the breast that can detect breast cancer when it is in its earliest, most treatable stage) performed every 1 to 2 years (or as recommended for your age and risk group). This will increase the chance of discovering breast cancer early.

When detected and treated at an early stage, chances for survival will increase and the woman will have more options for treatment. For most women, a first mammogram is recommended between the ages of 35 - 39 years, every 2 years from age 40 - 49, and yearly after that. Mammograms are especially useful as we age, and the breast tissue becomes less dense.

More than 80% of breast cancers are found after age 50 take good care of yourself and perform monthly self breast examinations, and be certain to schedule your yearly physical examination and mammogram.
