Risks for osteoporosis
Certain things increase your chance of developing osteoporosis as a woman. These include:
- small, thin body frame
- family history of osteoporosis
- postmenopausal status
- diet low in dairy products or other sources of calcium and vitamin D
- inactive lifestyle/lack of exercise
- Caucasian or Asian race
- long term use of steroid medications (prednisone)
- cigarette smoking
- excessive use of alcohol
