Risks for osteoporosis
Certain things increase your chance of developing osteoporosis as a woman. These include:
  • small, thin body frame
  • family history of osteoporosis
  • postmenopausal status
  • diet low in dairy products or other sources of calcium and vitamin D
  • inactive lifestyle/lack of exercise
  • Caucasian or Asian race
  • long term use of steroid medications (prednisone)
  • cigarette smoking
  • excessive use of alcohol
