Dr. Tamura received her undergraduate degree, magna cum laude, from Smith College in 1974. She then earned her medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in 1978. She completed her obstetrics and gynecology residency training at Yale New Haven Hospital in 1982.
Certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, Dr. Tamura is also a member of the Fairfield County Medical Association. Other professional credentials include membership in the Medical Care Evaluation Committee, the Danbury Medical Society, the Connecticut State Medical Society and the Maternal Mortality Committee. Dr. Tamura joined Physicians for Women in 1982.
